Abertridwr dog owner fined for fouling offence

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:00, Tuesday July 17th, 2012.

A woman from Abertridwr has been ordered to pay a total of £210, after allowing her dog to foul in the street.

Amanda Roberts, 28, of Edward Terrace, Abertridwr, was handed a fine of £75 by council workers when she failed to pick up after her dog at Tan Y Bryn, Senghenydd, on February 24, 2012.

After failing to pay the fine, Caerphilly County Borough Council took the dog owner to court.

The defendant did not attend court and the case was proved in her absence at Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court on July 12 2012.

Magistrates ordered the fine to be increased to £210.

Cllr Dave Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “Although the majority of dog owners act responsibly, a small minority do not pick up after their dogs and threaten the cleanliness and safety of our streets. There is no excuse for not picking up after your dog and you will be presented with a fixed penalty notice if you fail to do so.”
