A firm which manufactures CDs has given two up-and-coming musicians the chance to record their own disc.

MC Gilly from Bristol, and MC Mizzy from Cardiff, have been given the chance to record their very own CD – courtesy of CD duplication and printing firm Dischromatics.

The opportunity came after the duo impressed Radio 1 DJ Charlie Sloth at an urban music competition during last weekend’s Big Splash festival in Newport.

Gilly and Mizzy will each record and publish a CD, which will be designed and printed by event sponsors Dischromatics.

Michelle Perez, marketing manager for the Big Splash festival, said: “We were so pleased to receive the sponsorship from Dischromatics for part of the first prize for the Urban Edge Music Competition at this year’s Big Splash.

“The opportunity to record their own tracks and have 100 copies of their CD in professionally designed digipaks brought competitors from Cardiff, Bristol and Newport. Having BBC Radio 1’s Charlie Sloth commenting on how high the standard was another added bonus.

“This prize will mean that two young people just starting out in the music business will now have a professional hand up in the industry, and who knows where it could take them.”

Gareth Spencer, Dischromatics’ managing director, said: “Dischromatics has always supported up and coming musicians, particularly locally.

“This year’s Big Splash event gave us the opportunity to offer artists a chance to promote themselves and hopefully break through onto the national scene. We loved being involved in the event and watching a variety artists from different musical backgrounds perform live in Newport.”
