Airport arrest for fly tipper from Cefn Hengoed

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Wednesday August 8th, 2012.

A woman from Cefn Hengoed was forced to miss her holiday in the sun after she was arrested at Bristol Airport.

Amy Thomas, 19, of Gelligaer Road, Cefn Hengoed, missed her flight after a warrant for her arrest was issued by Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court for missing two court appearances in connection with a fly-tipping offence.

Thomas eventually appeared before magistrates on July 27 charged with dumping domestic waste at the Lodge, Gelligaer Court, Hospital Road, Penpedairheol.

She was handed a conditional discharge after admitting the offence and was ordered to pay prosecution costs to Caerphilly County Borough Council at a rate of £10 a fortnight.

Cllr Dave Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “This case demonstrates the council’s commitment to prosecuting people who show a total disregard for the environment and their fellow residents. Fly tipping is a serious crime, and failing to turn up for court will not make the inevitable conviction disappear.”
