A new £140,000 play area and multi-use ball court has been opened at Machen Welfare Ground, on Tyn Y Waun Road.

The new play area was a joint project between Caerphilly County Borough Council and Machen Welfare Association with funding obtained through numerous council sources such as Community Regeneration, Rural Development, and Community and Leisure Services.

Cllr Dave Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “Through council funds, children and young people in Machen have fantastic new facilities to enjoy, where they can play and socialise safely.

“The project was delivered in response to calls from local residents and demonstrates the council’s commitment to providing sufficient play opportunities for all. In turn, it reinforces our aim to meet the requirements of Welsh Government’s measure on looking after the rights of the child.”
