Llancaiach Fawr Manor, near Nelson, is the spooky setting for a new S4C TV series.

Welsh language game show Dan Glo (which means Custody) sees school pupils held prisoner within the walls of historic buildings.

The premise of the show, which begins on August 31, is the pupils have been locked up by a mysterious creature called Dan Glo.

The aim of the game is to complete a series of challenges to win five keys and escape from the building. They are helped by presenter Lois Jones.

In the first programme, four pupils from Ysgol Dinas Brân, Llangollen will be kept captive at Chirk Castle.

“We have a lot of fun filming Dan Glo,” says actress Lois, who played Beca in the S4C drama series Rownd a Rownd.

“We go to amazing buildings and castles around Wales I might not otherwise have visited. In some places we were allowed access to areas of the buildings the public wouldn’t usually be allowed.”

The other historic buildings featured in the series are the Carmarthen Museum, Pembroke Castle, Beaumaris Gaol, Cardiff City Hall, Penrhyn Castle near Bangor, Llancaiach Fawr Manor in Caerphilly and Abbeycwmhir near Llandrindod Wells.

“It can get very cold during filming and some of the buildings have quite a spooky feel to them. When we were at Llancaiach Fawr Manor, the crew and I felt quite spooked out at times.

“But it all adds to the fun of the programme as we try to escape the clutches of the fearful Dan Glo.”
