Thousands of pounds has been raised at the official launch of this year’s Mayor’s charity appeal.

Each year, the new Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council chooses which charities will benefit from fundraising events.

This year, Cllr Gaynor Oliver has chosen to support two charitable causes during her time in office – Helping Hands and Tŷ Hafan.

Rhymney-based charity Helping Hands is a non-profit organisation set up to support seriously ill residents of the Upper Rhymney Valley by providing a range of support services.

Tŷ Hafan offers comfort, care and support for life-limited children and young people, and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the whole family.

The charities were announced during a recent launch evening at Caerphilly County Borough Council’s headquarters Penallta House, where guests raised £3,800.
