Cycling fans in Caerphilly hoping to catch a glimpse of Olympic gold medallist Bradley Wiggins and World Champion Mark Cavendish when the Tour of Britain descends on the town this Friday won’t be disappointed.
Spectators at the finish line on Crescent Road will be able to watch live coverage of the race on a giant TV screen.
ITV4 has announced it will be broadcasting two hours of live coverage from each stage – including the sixth stage of Welshpool to Caerphilly.
As well as the live coverage, the channel will also feature a daily hour-long highlights programme every evening.
Almost 100 elite cyclists will descend on Caerphilly on Friday September 14 for the sixth stage of the Tour of Britain 2012.
The Tour of Britain will enter the county borough near Nelson, travel down to Ystrad Mynach and then follow the old road through Llanbradach. The competitors will then head into Caerphilly and face two gruelling climbs to the top of Caerphilly Mountain, before coming back down into the town for the stage finale against the backdrop of the magnificent Caerphilly Castle.

Cllr Harry Andrews, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “I greatly look forward to welcoming the cyclists to our county borough for the race, and would encourage as many people as possible to come along and cheer on the riders at this very prestigious event.”
The race coverage of stage six of the Tour of Britain is live on ITV4 from 1.45pm on September 14. The highlights programme will be broadcast that evening at 7pm on ITV4.
