Coleg Gwent students got the chance to witness this summer’s inspirational sporting achievements first hand when they visited the Paralympic Games in London.

In the final week of the Paralympics, sport students from Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys campus took the once in a lifetime opportunity to visit the Olympic Park.

The group of 33 students cheered on athletes in wheelchair rugby, goal ball, seven-a-side football and wheelchair tennis.

“The atmosphere in the Olympic Park was fantastic,” said sport student Sophie Walters. “It was really exciting to watch the Paralympic events especially the wheelchair rugby.”

Sport Lecturer Mererid Dark, said: “The experience was tremendous, one I will never forget. The Paralympic athletes made me feel very humble and proud to be a part of the event.”

The National Assembly for Wales, in partnership with the Welsh Government, Sport Wales and Disability Sport Wales will welcome Welsh Olympians and Paralympians to the Senedd on Friday September 14.

The Team GB and Paralympics GB members will parade to the Senedd where they will be greeted on the steps by First Minister Carwyn Jones AM and the Assembly’s Presiding Officer, Rosemary Butler AM.
