A company specialising in repairs and maintenance of commercial vehicles has moved into expanded premises.

Glenside Commercials Ltd has moved into a bespoke new workshop and admin centre has built its own premises on 1.2 acres of land it bought on Bedwas House Industrial Estate.

It had previously been based for 18 years on Trecennydd Industrial Estate in Caerphilly and it has premises in Croydon, Portsmouth and Avonmouth, but a steadily expanding client list meant it had outgrown its premises in South Wales.

Glenside Commercials provides repair and maintenance for all makes of commercial vehicles as well as 24-hour breakdown cover. It is also provides service and maintenance across South Wales and the southern England for leading transport refrigeration unit maker Carrier Transicold.

Managing Director Mark Lovering said: “Our core business has grown steadily over the years and we’ve expanded the repertoire of services we offer to commercial vehicle owners and fleet managers so more space was essential for our South Wales operation.

“It made sense to build our own, bespoke premises but location was also vital so we looked around and found the perfect piece of land on Bedwas House Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Caerphilly, just three miles from our previous base.

“Access is excellent – it’s easily reached from Cardiff, Newport and towns all over South Wales and is just 15 minutes from the M4 for customers coming from further afield. And, of course, it’s so close to our previous location that we expect to keep our existing customer base.”

Around 30 of the company’s 70 staff will be based at the new complex which will host Glenside Commercials’ admin centre including its 24-hour breakdown centre, five repair bays and three van service bays fitted with state-of-the-art diagnostic and maintenance equipment.

It will also feature a new service as Glenside Commercials has opened an Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) for VOSA, the Vehicle Operator Services Authority.

Mr Lovering said: “The dedicated ATF lane is a new service we’re offering after extensive work with VOSA to set it up.
“Instead of operators having to take their vehicles to a VOSA centre, which could be miles away, they’ve allowed us to set up a testing centre on our own base which will be closer and more convenient for many companies. And they can also book the test in advance.

“We started off bringing VOSA testing staff in one day a week with a view to expanding the service as demand grew but we’ve reached capacity in our first month and are now introducing a second day every week as the service is proving so popular.

“The premises are already proving a joy to work in and should serve Glenside Commercials for many years to come while enabling further expansion of our operations.”
