Gwent Police is investigating reports of a suspicious vehicle in the Caerphilly town area.
At approximately 7.20pm on Tuesday September 18, a passenger in a dark-coloured 4×4 vehicle was reported to have made remarks to a group of children in Mill Road, Caerphilly, as it drove past them.
Sergeant Andy Down said: “We take reports of this nature very seriously and officers are conducting enquiries in the area to locate the vehicle concerned, although I want to reassure people that no criminal offences relating to this incident have been reported.”
If anyone has any information about the incident, please call 101.
A number of local residents in the town, parents of local children, and their childless nieghbours, warned the police of this ever present possibility, and a threat to children playing on the streets of the town centre at a recent meeting held with the police on the issue of the lack of playing facilities in the town, and the danger from Road Traffic, and, vehicles which can be seen, regularly, trawling the town centre residential streets, probably looking for somewhere to park?? or not.
It really is time the Caerphilly council considered a proper secure and safe play area, in the town, for use by children from the town Centre.
The old County School in PARK LANE CAERPHILLY TOWN, now owned by the Council, formally owned by the Church, being one ideal setting for such a secure play area in the town.
There are local Politicians, unfortunatly, who oppose this idea, why that is the case no-one knows, YET.
The, St Martins Ward, Police Support Officer John MacDonnell, and, our Ward Police Constable Carl Watkins have declared their support and that of Gwent Police for the residents to secure such safe play areas, one being the disused school mentioned above. All it needs to make that happen is the support of St Martins Ward Councillors and Caerphilly Council.
I have been working closely with CPSO John McDonnel to attempt to provide a safe play area within the town. As Trefor rightly says the council owned buildings in Park Lane would be an ideal location.
I am baffled why anyone would be against providing a safe and secure playing area for children. Hopefully the council will take note of residents demands and provide facilities soon.
It's a bit sad that a report of this nature is hijacked and used to make uninformed comments and claims of who does what in the community.
If either of the male commentators above were concerned over providing safe youth club provision why have they not supported the St Martins Youth Project since it's commencement some 18months ago, and will continue to operate once staffing issues are resolved.
I assume Cllr. Fussel addresses his comment at me. Perhaps he should trouble to read what I actually wrote, that is that I am assisting police and residents in their desire to have a play area for town centre children. This is aimed at new provision of a safe play area for younger children and has nothing to do with the youth club.
If he wishes to lend his support this will be most welcome. Perhaps he will publicly offer his support in the Caerphilly Observer?
