Children bury time capsule at new Caerphilly pub

Youngsters from Cwrt Rawlin Primary School in Caerphilly have buried a time capsule at new pub The Red Kite.

Included in the time capsule were letters from pupils, a list of school rules, a CD of school songs, a programme from when the school opened in 2001, a school project on the Olympics, coins and exercise books.

Cllr Gaynor Oliver, Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough, helped the year six pupil bury their time capsule at the pub on Beddau Road, Parc Penrhos, last week.

Elaine Perkins, deputy headteacher at Cwrt Rawlin Primary School, said: “It was great to be involved in such a fabulous event. It was a great opportunity for the children to get creative and think about think about history by leaving items in the time capsule to be discovered in the future.”

A plaque was also unveiled on the day at The Red Kite showing the date and the details of when the capsule was buried.

Tony Davies, manager of the Marston’s Inns and Taverns pub, said: “The time capsule is not only a fascinating project for youngsters to take part in, but it’s also quite symbolic for us too – we’re at the exciting beginning of something new with The Red Kite, which will be around for generations of families to enjoy.”
