Police warn of bike thefts in Caerphilly

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:24, Monday May 16th, 2011.

Residents are being warned to keep their bicycles locked-up securely after a spate of thefts in the Caerphilly town area.

According to Gwent Police, there have been 29 reports of pedal bicycles and mountain bikes being stolen from gardens, sheds and garages.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “More people are obviously using their bicycles throughout the warmer weather, particularly children, and we want to make sure that their property remains safe and secure.

“When they are not using their bikes, then by locking it with a bike chain or storing it in secured property, such as a garage, they will reduce the likelihood of it being stolen by opportunistic thieves or by scrap metal collectors who will sell on the bike for scrap value.

“Even if you are popping into the house or shop for a short while, it’s always important to secure your property.”

If you have any information about any bicycles that have been stolen, then please contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
