The Rhymney community united on the weekend at St David’s Church to light a candle for missing five-year-old girl April Jones from Machynlleth.
Residents lit candles, said prayers and released pink balloons to show their support to April’s family.
The Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Gaynor Oliver and local councillor Carl Cuss attended.
Kelly Sneddon, who organised the event, said: “I was deeply saddened to hear the news about April Jones who was abducted. I decided to organise an event to put on record our support from Rhymney.
“We had candles, prays from the vicar, Chinese lanterns and a pink balloon release at the end. I would like to say thanks to everyone for coming and we raised £100 which Cllr Carl Cuss and Cllr Gaynor Oliver will send to the family of April Jones.”
Cllr Cuss added: “I was very pleased with the people who were involved in organising this particular event. It was nice to see so many people coming together to show their support.
“It is very sad what has happened and it’s not the sort of news any parent would want to hear and all our thoughts go out to the family of April Jones at this sad time. The £100 raised at the event will be sent to April’s family on behalf of the community of Rhymney.”

Give Aprils mummy my love and tell her we are all feeling the pain, its like a knife in your heart, and it will carry on because you want to feel the pain, and you dont want it to stop, if it stops it will mean you have forgotten, and that can never be. I have felt this pain, and its indiscribable.
