Police in Blackwood are reminding residents to check the security of their homes following a recent spate of burglaries.
During the last seven weeks, 14 homes in Blackwood have been targeted, where entry has been gained through back doors and windows.
Half of the burglaries have occurred during the daytime.
In the majority of the crimes, small items have been stolen, mainly jewellery.
Inspector Neil Jones, from the Blackwood Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We would like to remind residents to always double check that they have closed and locked their doors and windows before they leave the house or go to bed. Even if you’re in the house in the day, it’s a good idea to keep your doors locked. It’s also important that you keep your car keys in a safe place and out of sight.
“With the summer approaching, residents tend to leave windows and doors open, giving criminals easy opportunities. Another common mistake is that people tend to go on summer holidays leaving houses look empty for days on end.
“It may seem like simple advice but it’s very important that residents take steps to reduce the risk of them becoming a victim of crime. We are currently investigating the recent burglaries and I would encourage the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour.”
