Penyrheol councillor to chair local charity as it celebrates 60th anniversary

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 12:00, Tuesday October 30th, 2012.

Penyrheol councillor Anne Collins has been given the honour of chairing the Save the Children Committee for Caerphilly when it celebrates its 60th anniversary next year.

Anne, who is a Plaid Cymru councillor and is a former Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough, takes over from Marilyn Rees, who has stepped down after 15 years.

A supporter of the the charity since 1969, Anne said: “I’m delighted to have the honour of chairing the committee in its 60th anniversary year.

“We usually raise around £8,000 a year which goes to the wonderful work of Save the Children, including its work in schools in Caerphilly through the award winning Families and Schools Together (FAST) scheme,” added Anne, who chose Save the Children as her charity during her mayoral year of office.

“We would love to see new and younger members joining the committee. We meet once a month at Bethel Chapel Vestry and I’d be delighted to hear from anyone who wants to help in this very rewarding work.”

Most of the group’s fundraising work takes place during Save the Children Week.
