Two Paralympic medallists visited St Cenydd School last week to inspire pupils with disabilities in a special assembly.
Aled Davies, who won a gold medal in Discus and a bronze in Shot Put at the London 2012 Paralympics, and Sara Head, who won bronze in Table Tennis, brought along their medals and answered questions from pupils.
The Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr Gaynor Oliver, also attended the special assembly and introduced the athletes, who answered questions about their summer of sporting success.
Aled and Sara were impressed to learn about the pupils own sporting successes at the recent Stoke Mandeville National Junior Games, where a number of the pupils won medals while competing in bowls, swimming, track athletics and field athletics. Each child who won a medal at the championships had their medals presented to them by one of the athletes.
St Cenydd headteacher Ian Kilcoyne, said: “The pupils were thrilled to meet both Aled and Sara. To have their medals that they had worked so hard to achieve in the National Championships, presented to them by Paralympic champions, is something they will remember for the rest of their lives. Hopefully some of our talented athletes will follow in Aled and Sara’s footsteps and perhaps once day reach the heights of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
