Coleg Gwent sport students take charge

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Thursday November 8th, 2012.

Coleg Gwent sport students took the lead for school football and netball leagues recently.

Putting their refereeing and umpiring skills to the test, the Crosskeys Campus students helped organise year five and six school pupils taking part in football and netball cluster leagues at Risca Leisure Centre.

Fifteen schools from the Islwyn Borough area competed in indoor netball or outdoor football.

Caerphilly County Borough Council Sports Development Officer Jonathan Hughes said: “The football and netball matches were highly competitive, and once again the Crosskeys students did a great job.”

More volunteers will be helping in future events for the council allowing students to gain voluntary hours for their Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership or Millennium Volunteer hours.
