Environment Agency warns of possible localised flooding across south east Wales

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:08, Tuesday November 20th, 2012.

Environment Agency Wales is advising people to be alert to the risk of localised flooding across south east Wales as further heavy rainfall is forecast over the next few days.

With ground saturated from recent heavy rainfall, further rain could lead to flooding of low lying land and roads from small streams and drains.

There is also a risk that falling leaves may cause blockages to drains, which could lead to localised surface water flooding.

The Agency is advising people to listen to local weather and traffic reports and updates on the radio or TV, or if able to, view the latest information on the Met Office website.

Care should be taken as driving conditions may be hazardous, and people should listen to traffic reports for advice and for any disruption locally.

People are reminded that flood water can be extremely dangerous, and under no circumstances should people try to walk or drive through flood water.

Agency officers are monitoring conditions closely and are checking that rivers are clear of blockages and that flood defences are in good working order.

For the latest on flood alerts and warnings go to www.environment-agency.gov.uk/flood or call Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
