Children from primary schools across Caerphilly County Borough got their running shoes on recently and took part in an annual cross country running event.
Over 1,000 children from 50 of the county borough’s primary schools took part in the event held at The Hangar in Aberbargoed and organised by Rhymney Cluster Head teachers and Sport Caerphilly.
Cllr Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education, leisure and lifelong learning said: “I am delighted that so many children were keen to take part in this excellent cross country event – I’m sure an enjoyable day was had by all, while also reinforcing the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle.”
The children were joined by former Wales and Great Britain 400 metres sprint athlete Matt Elias and Wales and Cardiff Blues rugby star Tom James, who presented the winning individuals and schools with their medals.
The event had volunteer support from Coleg Gwent and Ystrad Mynach College.
Prince’s Gate and Tesco Crossways in Caerphilly also donated a large supply of bottled water for the event.
