Two people have appeared in court charged with helping a man abscond from an open prison.
Leighton Williams, 22, absconded from HMP Prescoed on Sunday. He was arrested on Tuesday.
In June 2008, Williams was given an indeterminate sentence with a minimum of 30 months to be served before consideration for release at Cardiff Crown Court after being convicted of Grievous Bodily Harm.
Williams’ mother Mandy Williams, 49, of Lewis Drive, Caerphilly, and Glyn Griffiths, 51, of Nantgarw Road, Caerphilly, appeared before Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
They have been jointly charged with assisting a prisoner to escape and were bailed to appear at Newport Crown Court on January 4, 2013.
