Caerphilly County Borough Council has been awarded £380,000 in Welsh Government funding for regeneration projects.
The money is part of a wider £1.8m package awarded to support projects in the Heads of the Valleys Regeneration Area.
Fourteen projects across all five Local Authorities in the Heads of the Valleys area have been awarded funding.
Housing, Regeneration and Heritage Minister Huw Lewis said: “I am delighted to announce funding for these fourteen projects. The variety of the projects both in terms of location and the nature of the projects shows the wide range of facilities and opportunities that the Heads of the Valleys has to offer and how are helping to regenerate the area.
“The Welsh Government’s new regeneration framework ‘Vibrant and Viable Places’ outlines how we need to transform underperforming places and ensure economic growth which is inclusive and sustainable. The projects we are funding will do just that, improving the appearance of the areas, providing opportunities for communities to come together and bringing new people into valleys towns.”
The funding is split as follows
Caerphilly
Rhondda Cynon Taff
Blaenau Gwent
Torfaen
Merthyr Tydfil
Is it me or is there something obscene that the Chief Executive of Caerphilly Council gets a salary of about half the Welsh Government grant of £380,000 for environmental improvements in the Heads of the Valleys, no one in local government is worth the salary he effectively awarded himself.
