The Welsh Ambulance Service is looking for volunteers to help with its First Responders scheme.
There are currently more than 1,000 volunteer Community First Responders (CFRs) working day and night across Wales providing an initial response to patients suffering from potentially life-threatening conditions.
The Ambulance Service is keen to stress that First Responders do not replace or alter the normal response of a Paramedic.
Tony Rossetti, a First Responder Officer, said: “Every second counts when you are trying to save someone’s life and Community First Responder schemes are hugely beneficial in assisting the ambulance service to provide the best possible pre-hospital care for patients.
“All training for volunteers who wish to take part in such an initiative is provided by the Welsh Ambulance Service.
“We’re currently looking for more recruits in the Blackwood, Caerphilly, Hengoed and Ystrad Mynach areas.”
To become a First Responder you must be over 18 years of age, be physically fit and hold a clean UK driving licence. Applicants need to successfully complete over 30 hours of training, and will also need to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check and Occupational Health check before being registered to the scheme.
