Plaid Cymru AM Lindsay Whittle got into the festive fun by donning a brightly coloured jumper to support a campaign by Save the Children to help its life saving work.

The charity is asking for a £1 donation from all who take part in its new Christmas Jumper Day on Friday, December 14, and hopes people across Wales will join in while also helping vulnerable children across the world.

Every year more than 7 million children under the age of five die from easily preventable causes like diarrhoea, malaria and malnutrition. Simple solutions like vaccines, clean water and mosquito nets could save lives. In Wales, some children go through winter without a warm coat or a decent pair of shoes or are going to school hungry because they don’t get a proper breakfast.

Lindsay Whittle, who represents South Wales East, said: “Save The Children do a fantastic job in helping children at home and abroad and I was delighted to have been able to support their campaign.

“This fundraiser is a bit of festive fund while also providing people with the perfect excuse to wear a festive woolly jumper or dig out an old jumper.

Mary Powell-Chandler, Head of Save the Children in Wales said: “Everyone can take part in Save the Children’s first ever Christmas Jumper Day on December 14. Rescue your jumper from its exile, get your friends, family and workplaces involved, and donate whatever you can to help save a children’s life. Let’s make the world better with a sweater.”
