Caerphilly AM to host benefit change events

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:55, Thursday January 10th, 2013.

Caerphilly Labour AM Jeff Cuthbert has organised a series of meetings for residents affected by changes to their benefits.

Under the welfare reforms, coming into effect from April, many people will have help for Housing Benefit and other means-tested benefits reduced.

The series of events have been put together to offer constituents the chance to ask questions about how the changes will affect them.

Mr Cuthbert said: “The passing of these Welfare Reforms by the UK Government has led to many people contacting me to express their very real fears over the cut in income they will be experiencing from this April onward.

“Whilst this is a result of the UK Government’s callous raid on the poorest people in society, it doesn’t mean that local Assembly Members should stay quiet and accept them because it is not a devolved issue.

“We are working with a range of organisations that have serious concerns about the changes so we want these events to at least mitigate the situation through greater awareness. I hope that many people attend these important events so that they are more informed of the changes down the line.”

The events will take place at:
Cartref Community Hall, Bargoed on Friday January 11 between 2pm and 5pm.

Graig y Rhacca Resource Centre, on Friday January 18 between 10am and 2pm.

Nelson Community Centre on Friday January 25 between 1pm and 5pm.
