News | Richard Gurner | Published: 10:17, Friday January 11th, 2013.

Offenders sentenced to carry out unpaid community service completed more than 17,500 hours with Caerphilly Council during a six month period last year.

As part of the Community Payback programme, offenders, working under the supervision of Wales Probation Trust completed a number of community projects over a total of 17,688 hours.

They included extensive work to clear, improve and maintain Crosskeys RFC, clear and maintain war graves in cemeteries across Caerphilly County Borough and ad-hoc clearance of areas and the removal of graffiti from various locations across the county borough.

Cllr David Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services at Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “I am pleased that offenders subject to Community Payback orders are, through this scheme, able to make a valuable contribution to improving our environment through local community and improvement projects such as these.”

Those carrying out community service wear orange jackets with the words ‘Community Payback’ across the back.
