Caerphilly AM Jeff Cuthbert praises council for cold weather response

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:00, Tuesday January 29th, 2013.

Caerphilly’s Labour AM Jeff Cuthbert has praised Caerphilly County Borough Council’s response to the recent severe weather.

Jeff Cuthbert AM said: “Caerphilly County Borough Council’s response was testament to the dedication of their hard-working staff and quick-thinking political leadership. The Council has also benefited from working with the Welsh Government to ensure that salt stocks were more than adequate this year in the event of severe winter weather.

“Council gritters worked extremely hard throughout the recent period of severe weather and even cleared hard-to-reach side streets if necessary so that residents with medical emergencies could be accessed by ambulances or other vehicles.

“I commend the council for their response which ensured that disruption for my constituents was kept to a minimum.”

Speaking for myself, in Ludlow St Caerphilly, I was not satisfied, we never have proper snow clearance until its almost gone. Normally the traffic makes two ruts in the road and than they freeze overnight.

I can only agree with Jan, there was a noticeable reduction in service this year. Perhaps they were all too busy in the side streets of Caerphilly.
