The war memorial in Caerphilly town centre is being spruced up in time for spring with a £4,000 programme of cleansing works.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Bereavement Services have arranged for the Caerphilly Cenotaph to receive an extensive clean and for the lettering to be re-gilded.

Cllr Dave Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “Everyone understands how important it is for us to remember the brave soldiers who died during the war, fighting for the freedom of our country. By cleaning up the war memorial in Caerphilly town centre residents and visitors can pay their respects to those soldiers that we owe so much to.”

The work should take two weeks to complete.
