Risca’s Tredegar Park gets £400,000 makeover

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Wednesday February 20th, 2013.

Tredegar Park in Risca has a received a £400,000 makeover from Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The money, spent as part of the council’s Community Asset Fund programme, has gone towards repairs, a wide range of schemes to tackle vandalism and the development of an arts space.

The events space has on-site electricity, on-site water and reinforced grass areas – meaning complex events can be held without damage to the grass.

A floorscape has also been built in the event area inspired by the coat of arms of Lord Tredegar, who the park is named after, featuring a stag’s head motif.

Additional seats have been provided in the park, a new bus shelter installed and the toilets have been made more accessible for pushchairs.

Cllr Ken James, cabinet member for regeneration, planning and sustainable development, said: “I am excited to see this versatile space become a hub of community activity. Already a number of events have been held and I know that the future will see many more, which will further enhance Risca Town Centre and enrich the lives of the community.”

Funding was received from several sources to complete the work including the Community Asset grants, Town Centre Management and Urban Renewal.
