Residents across Caerphilly County Borough are being urged to be vigilant with their home security after a spate of break-ins.
Homes and garden sheds in Blackwood, Rhymney, Risca and Ystrad Mynach have all been targeted.
PC Stuart Lewis, Crime and Disorder Reduction Officer for Caerphilly, said: “We tend to see a rise in shed burglaries during the spring and summer, and despite the cold weather we have already seen this happening this year across the Caerphilly borough.
“On the evening of February 14 we had six reported break-ins in areas including Bargoed, Blackwood, Rhymney, Risca and Ystrad Mynach. Property stolen during these burglaries included: a generator, gardening equipment, power tools, a CD player and a bottle of saved coins.
“These sort of items are far too valuable for residents to be complacent about the security of their shed. There are simple steps that everyone can follow to limit the opportunities for them to become a victim of crime.”
In the last week, six properties in Blackwood have been targeted in areas including Coronation Road, Morrison Street, St Mary’s Road and Highfield Road.
These burglaries were a result of access being gained through unlocked windows and doors and forced entry. Items stolen include: an X-Box, mobile phones and cash.
Inspector Mark Smith of Blackwood said: “I want to remind residents to always double check that they have closed and locked their doors and windows before they leave the house or go to bed. Even if you’re in the house in the day, it’s a good idea to keep your doors locked. We are currently investigating the recent burglaries and I would encourage the public to report any suspicious behaviour immediately on 101.”
