A charity golf day held in celebration of a company’s tenth anniversary raised more than £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Excellence IT, based on Bedwas House Industrial Estate, raised £2,340 when it held the golf day at Bryn Meadows back in September last year.
The firm’s bank Barclays has now added another £750 to the pot bringing the total to £3,060.
Rebecca Parke, fundraising manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are extremely grateful to Excellence IT for choosing to support Macmillan with their ten year anniversary celebrations.
“The whole team worked incredibly hard to put the event together which was a huge success all round. We are looking forward to continuing our relationship with Excellence IT in 2013.
“Macmillan Cancer Support is funded almost entirely through donations so events like this really do make a huge difference to the lives of local people living with cancer.
“In 2012 Macmillan was able to help 67 people with almost £20,000 in grants to help with additional costs such as fuel bills and travel to and from hospital appointments.”
Jason Colemam, business manager with Barclays, said: “We’re delighted with the amount raised and would like to thank our customers and everyone who supported us to make this happen. We really wanted to support Excellence IT to help them raise as much as possible for Macmillan.
“Barclays has a fantastic community investment programme that encourage employees to get involved in the charities and causes that are important to them. It’s about giving back our skills, time, and energy to support our local communities.”
Andy Green, co-founder and co-director of Excellence IT, said the company chose Macmillan as the beneficiary after his wife died of leukaemia in 2005 and the charity supported his family.
