Caerphilly Council catering team shortlisted for four national awards

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s catering team has been shortlisted in four categories at of the prestigious Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA) Awards 2011.

Councillor Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education, leisure and lifelong learning said: “Our catering team are committed to providing a first class quality service to our county borough’s school children, and I am delighted that the dedication they show day in day out has been rewarded. I wish the team, Christine and Colin every success at the awards ceremony.”

Christine Greening, of Bryn Awel Primary School, has been shortlisted in the Welsh Primary School Catering Frontline Employee of the Year category. As Cook in Charge at Bryn Awel Primary, Christine was nominated for the award for her dedication and enthusiasm in encouraging the children to eat their school meals, and creating healthy dishes which also appeal to young children.

The children of Bryn Awel Primary School, who wrote a letter of support for Christine as part of this nomination, said: “At dinnertime, Mrs Greening supplies us with healthy dinners and there’s a lot of selections. Every couple of months we get a taster of new foods to go in our menu, and we all love them.”

Colin Jones of Hengoed Primary School has been shortlisted for the Welsh Outstanding Achievement Award. As Cook in Charge at Hengoed Primary School, Colin was nominated for his “outstanding levels of service and commitment” and “the enormous contribution he has made to local authority catering provision”.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Catering team has also been shortlisted for the Welsh Regional Training Award and the Welsh Regional Marketing Award.

The Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA) Awards 2011 will take place in Cardiff on February 17.
