A Llanbradach man with more than 50 convictions to his name is again back behind bars.
Michael Loader, 30, of Dan-y-Darren was jailed for three years at Newport Crown Court recently for burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of drugs, disqualified driving and other driving offences.
The court was told that in the early hours of Sunday September 16, 2012, Loader forced his way into a house in Ystrad Mynach. He burgled the house while the occupiers and their two children were asleep upstairs.
He stole personal items from the house and outbuildings including a handbag, two pairs of boots and a petrol strimmer.
He also stole the victim’s car keys and car and filled the car with the stolen items and then drove away.
Later the same day Loader was seen driving the stolen car which he had damaged. He failed to stop for police and was arrested following a short pursuit through the Caerphilly town area.
On arrest Loader, who has in excess of 50 previous convictions, was found in possession of a quantity of cannabis, a lock knife and some of the stolen goods.
He was also a disqualified driver with no insurance or driving documentation.
DC Jamie Cooper, speaking after the hearing which took place on on April 12, said: “Michael Loader’s actions have had a devastating impact on the lives of his victim’s – he is a persistent offender who has now been brought to justice.”
In July last year Loader was released from prison after he successfully appealed a two-and-a-half year sentence handed to him after he assaulted the mother of his baby and set fire to her dressing gown while high on drugs.
London’s Court of Appeal slashed his sentence for the November 2011 attack to nine months.
The appeal court heard how Loader was a valium addict and had taken drugs on the night of the attack.
He went to the room where his partner, identified in court as “K”, was with their baby and began throwing items around and kicking things.
Loader grabbed hold of his partner and pinched her on the face, before chillingly declaring: “I’m going to burn the house down”.
He set fire to a dressing gown and, after letting it burn, put out the flames and went downstairs, leaving his partner in the room.
He was arrested two days later and told police he could not remember anything before his arrival at the police station because of the amount of drugs he had taken.
His lawyers argued that the two-and-a-half year sentence was too tough and had the term quashed by appeal judges.
Lord Justice Hooper said: “In his favour is the fact that he pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and that he put the fire out very quickly.”
Loader was released immediately because he would have to serve only half of his term in prison and had already served 118 days in custody before he was jailed.
Not long enough he'll be out in a year with good behaviour sentences need to be a lot harsher to deter others
He should never have been let out in the first place, I hope those responsible for his early release are reading this. Now maybe we can all rest in our beds in peace, for a 12 month at least.
Bet his mum is really proud of him …….
He put a little baby`s life at risk as well as the baby`s mother …. everyone should always remember what this guy has done …
