Unemployment in Wales remains static at 125,000, according to latest statistics.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics show an unemployment rate of 8.4% for the three months to the end of April this year.
Despite the level of unemployment remaining static, official figures reveal the number of new people in work had increased by 10,000 over the quarter.
Welsh Secretary David Jones said: “It is very encouraging that the latest statistics continue to show encouraging signs of growth in Wales and these figures show Wales moving in the right direction.
“The UK government has made supporting our economy a priority and today’s figures show we are on the right track.”
Plans for a “job summit” in north Wales were announced by Mr Jones, “to encourage and open up discussions on employment and the issues that businesses face.”
According to the Welsh Government, figures over the year showed that Wales had outperformed the UK average in employment, unemployment and economic inactivity.
Despite these figures, a spokesperson said: “The latest figures show that the economic situation in Wales remains challenging due to the weak global economy and spending cuts imposed by the UK Government.
“Whilst the UK government holds all the major macroeconomic tools, we are doing all we can to help people back into jobs or training.”
The number of people out of work between January and March last year was 6,000 less than the previous quarter and 12,000 less than the current period the year before.
