£30,000 worth of cigarettes stolen in series of raids in Trethomas, Risca and Nelson

Almost £30,000 worth of cigarettes have been stolen in raids on four Caerphilly County Borough shops over six weeks.

The first break-in happened at Tesco Extra, Pontymister Industrial Estate, Risca, some time between 11pm on Tuesday April 30 and 5.30am on Wednesday May 1. Cigarettes worth £10,000 were stolen.

The second raid occurred at the Co-operative store on Mafon Road, Nelson in the early hours of Tuesday May 21. Forced entry was gained and £500 worth of cigarettes was stolen.

In the third burglary, £4,000 worth of cigarettes were taken from the Spar store on Llanfabon Drive, Trethomas, some time between 11pm on Saturday June 1 and 7.30am on Sunday June 2.

Cigarettes worth £15,000 were stolen some time between 11.30pm on Saturday June 8 and 7am on Sunday June 9 from Tesco Express on Newport Road, Trethomas.

All incidents are currently under investigation and officers are working closely with retails to offer crime prevention advice. If you have any information relating to these incidents, please call 101.
