The Royal Welsh will be marching through Bargoed on Saturday September 28.

The parade will mark the third anniversary of the regiment receiving the Freedom of Caerphilly County Borough.
Residents are being encouraged to turn out and show their support.

Cllr Harry Andrews, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “We are absolutely honoured to be welcoming the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh back to our county borough.

“I would encourage as many residents as possible to turn out and show their support and appreciation to the regiment.”
Major Derek Adams, Assistant Regimental Secretary of The Royal Welsh, said: “It is always a huge honour and privilege for soldiers to be welcomed back to the Welsh villages, towns and cities that they hail from.

“These events are perfect opportunities for us to engage with the communities that have showed us so much support.
“In the three years since the Freedom of Caerphilly county borough was conferred on The Royal Welsh there was been an almost continuous commitment to operations and that commitment has not come without sacrifice.”

He continued: “When soldiers march through the streets and they see that support from the public they are humbled and very appreciative. We very much look forward to this event.”

The Freedom of Caerphilly county borough was conferred upon the Royal Welsh in September 2010. To mark the occasion, more than 150 Army personnel marched through Caerphilly and Blackwood town centres.
