A Welsh Assembly worker from Rudry has completed a 250-mile cycle ride for charity.

John Chick, the Assembly’s Head of Members’ Business Support, rode with ten other colleagues on the 250-mile charity bike ride from the Assembly’s Colwyn Bay office to the Senedd in Cardiff.

The eleven riders set off on Friday August 16 with the aim of completing the journey, mostly along the route of the Lon Las trail, in five days.

So far, more than £2,260 has been raised in support of Cancer Research Wales and the T? Hafan children’s hospice in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The team were given a warm welcome by their fellow staff members on the steps of the Senedd as they returned on Monday August 19.

Speaking before the ride Mr Chick, who last year completed a gruelling 10,000 kilometre journey bike ride from Cardiff to Turkey and back, said: “I am delighted to see so many of my colleagues getting involved in this fundraising journey.

“None of those taking part are members of cycling clubs and for most of them it’s the first time they’ve embarked on a cycle journey of this length.

“So I’d like to thank them for their efforts and their commitment to raising money for these two charities.”
Rosemary Butler AM, the Assembly’s Presiding Officer, said: “I’d like to congratulate all those taking part for their inspiring efforts on what sounds like a demanding journey.

“It is fantastic to see Assembly staff committing to this fundraising effort and raising money for such good causes.”
