Trinity Fields School has been hailed for its use of technology.

The Ystrad Mynach school has been highlighted as an example of best practice in Estyn’s annual report of HM Chief Inspector of Education and Training in Wales.

The Estyn report found that Trinity Fields was an example of ‘sector-leading’ practice for the school’s work with ICT to create new learning experiences for children with special educational needs.

Staff at Trinity Fields use a range of technology including iPads, touchscreen computers, gesture-based technology, motion sensing equipment and eye movement devices to help pupils communicate and learn. The school is also home to a sensory room and state-of-the-art hydrotherapy pool.

Earlier this year the school received the NAACE 3rd Millennium award for its innovative use of technology.

Principal Ian Elliott said: “ICT has become an essential tool for some of our pupils right across the curriculum in the same way that pen and paper is essential for other students. We’re always looking at ways in which technology can benefit and support children with a wide variety of learning difficulties.”
