A celebration of the life of St Martin’s Church Hall in Caerphilly town is to be held before it shuts its doors for the final time.

The church hall, which is more than 100 years old and started life as a school, is to hold an exhibition of its history on March 8, from 10.30am until 4pm.

Anyone with any memories about the hall is invited to sign a special memories book which will be available on the day.

Church warden Deryn McAndrew said, “We are holding an exhibition of the history of the hall, including a timeline of events which took place there. Over the years these have included whist drives, jumble sales, dances, plays, socials, parish meetings, vestry meetings, sales of work, flower shows and Christmas parties.

“Also lots of organisations and clubs have met there – Guides and Brownies, Scouts, Sunday School, Mother and Babies, sports clubs, youth clubs, Ladies Fellowship and Men’s Society.

“We welcome anyone who has been involved in using the church hall in any way over the years to come along to our celebration day next Saturday.”

The hall, which has been bought by Caerphilly County Borough as part of their long term development plan for the area, will shut its doors for the final time on March 31.
