Improvement in education across Caerphilly County Borough

News | Gareth Hill | Published: 17:00, Thursday April 3rd, 2014.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s education service is improving, according to school inspectors Estyn.

A 2012 inspection by the body identified five recommendations for improvement. The watchdog has now told the council it will not be carrying out further follow-up action because of improvements.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “I’m thrilled to receive notification that the council’s education services are no longer subject to Estyn monitoring. This news is a true indicator of the significant improvements that have been carried out since the 2012 visit, and a signal of the hard work that has gone on.”

Estyn inspectors carried out a monitoring visit in October 2013 to see the Council’s progress against the recommendations. A subsequent visit was carried out in January 2014 and inspectors found ‘significant improvements’ in a range of areas.

Following the monitoring visits, Estyn inspectors said the council had “acted swiftly to address the recommendations from 2012.”

They added: “The council demonstrated a strong commitment to improve its education services for children and young people and established better foundations to continue the drive for improvements in attainment and achievement for learners.”
