Abertridwr residents launch clean-up campaign

TIP: Rubbish near ‘Top Rock’ before the first clean-up

An Abertridwr woman has launched a clean up group due to the amount of litter and dumped waste in the village.

Sarah Williams-Baker moved to the Aber Valley from London last spring and launched the Abertridwr Resident Caring Clean Up Team after asking Caerphilly County Borough Council to clear the litter.

Sarah said: “I contacted the council a number of times and they promised to send someone out but never did.”

Sarah, her partner and two volunteers took three van loads of rubbish from the first clean up in March and are focusing on the cycleway opposite Abertridwr Workmen’s Hall on April 6.

She added: “It’s such a shame that we live in such a beautiful part of Wales but people don’t seem to care and just drop litter.”

Sarah has received a positive response from residents and Aber Valley councillor Lyndon Binding.

Cllr Binding said: “It’s not just the council or residents’ responsibility.

“It’s up to us to work together and I’m going be getting my hands dirty on Sunday and I hope people in the community come out to help.”
