Detectives investigating the disappearance of 77-year-old Abertridwr man Trevor Elias are no closer to finding him two years after he first went missing.

Mr Elias was reported missing on Saturday April 7, 2012 and was last seen on CCTV images taken on April 6, 2012.

On Thursday April 5, 2012, Mr Elias, known locally for his love of horse racing and unique sense of humour, was seen outside the Leigh Club in Senghenydd between 11.15pm and 12.15am and before that had been at The Buffs Club on Abertridwr Square

He was seen on CCTV at 12.23am on Friday April 6 walking passed the Cenotaph in Senghenydd and heading down Commercial Street in the direction of Abertridwr.

It is also known that two women were seen walking ahead of Mr Elias on Commercial Street toward Senghenydd Square at approximately 12.20am. It is also believed that three vehicles and a man would also have passed Trevor as they came up Commercial Street heading toward Abertridwr.

Detective Superintendent Ian Roberts, of Gwent Police, said: “Two years on and we are still no closer in establishing what happened to Trevor since he was last seen. A number of reviews have been carried out since he went missing and we are doing all we can to find out what happened to him.

“We are appealing to members of the community to look closely at the CCTV as I’m sure there will be someone who recognises the images of the people and vehicles. We believe that three vehicles passed him on the road and that other people – two women walking ahead of him and one man who was walking in the opposite direction speaking on a mobile phone – may have seen him.

“We are of course liaising with Trevor’s family who need to know what happened to him.”

Mr Elias is described as being approximately 6ft tall, of very thin build, and has brown short hair. He wears glasses.

Police have said they will also be doing a leaflet drop in the area in the hope of finding Mr Elias.

Anyone who has any information, no matter how unimportant it may seem, is urged to ring 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Many people in the community are also mystified by the lack of information coming from the police perspective in this case.

For instance, people are wondering if Trevor simply disappeared off the face of the earth, leaving behind all traces of himself, or, presumably he was on some form of benefit, and as a result needed a bank account, has that account been accessed, at all, since he disappeared?.

Have those Trevor was close to by association been questioned about his disappearance? have those, who it was known by the police, Trevor had a passing association with been questioned and with what results.

There has been a distinct lack of communication with the wider community on the progress, or otherwise, of the disappearance of this man, it has been said by some that there seems to be a lack of interest and urgency by the police in respect to this `Mystery`.

It is particularly sad and distressing that a man who was so much `in the face` of the public when he was around can simply fall off the radar in the way he has, it is also an indictment of society that he can so quickly be forgotten when there is absolutely no explination for his disappearance,

Gwent is obviously not the place to go missing if you ever wish to be found. There is a case in Newbridge near Blackwood in which a young man named Kyle vaughan has been missing for the same amount of time.

People do not just dissappear, why the police are not treating this case as highly suspicious i do not know, if a body was found im sure the police would have found out exactly who the females were in the cctv, the guy on the mobile phone and the passing cars? I do hope that there will be some development with these cases in the future as it must be absolute hell for family, friends and loved ones.

Trevor was an elderly man so probably couldn’t have got that far (he didn’t head for Caerphilly as other CCTV would have picked him up). He hasn’t turned up in any villages or towns so maybe he’s in the countryside somewhere, as he would have been found by now on the lanes. So was he murdered and his body hidden? It does seem to be one explanation as to why they haven’t found him, although I can not see any motive for this action unless it was mindless violence. I assume he has no family as no-one seems to be pushing this. Its all very sad.
