More than 250 people were fined last year for dropping litter or not cleaning up after their dog.
Between April 1 2013 and March 31 2014, 256 fixed penalty notices were issued by Caerphilly County Borough Council.
A fixed penalty notice carries a £75 fine and non-payment can result in court prosecution and a fine up to £1,000.
Cllr David Poole, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “We know that a large number of residents take great pride in the appearance of their local environment, but unfortunately there are still a small number of negligent people who feel it is acceptable to drop litter and let their dogs defecate in public places.
“As a council we are playing hard ball with these offenders – those who are caught will be hit in the pocket. Please respect our beautiful environment.”
Council Cabinet member Councillor David Poole says – ““As a council we are playing hard ball with these offenders – those who are caught will be hit in the pocket. Good on Dave Poole and his colleagues Councillors for making the point that the Caerphilly council will not tolerate the heinous crime of dropping litter and dog owners who fail to clean up after their dog have made a call of nature.
Let see the same `dogged` attitude applied to those senior officers of the Council, i.e. those who serve Cabinet Members has heads of Departments, who have acted unlawfully ( according to the Auditor General for Wales) in diverting money from the public purse to their own bank accounts, lets see the same determination by Caerphilly council, to punish wrongdoers when it comes to issues nearer home and which impact on the Governance of Caerphilly council, that determinations currently appears to be in short supply.
Challenged somebody who dropped litter in my street the other day. Kept it friendly and jokey but made a show of picking it up and putting it in somebodies bin. Things I achieved 1. A piece of paper in the bin and not on the street 2. Nothing probably.
