Michael Haywood of Risca was jailed for two years.

A Risca man has been jailed for two years for breaching an Antisocial Behaviour Order (ASBO).

Michael Haywood, 51, of Tredegar Street, Risca, breached his ASBO by harassing a former neighbour with nuisance phone calls.

Over a three-week period he also made 41 hoax calls to the emergency services, claiming he found dead bodies, saw people being stabbed and had shot people.

One of the calls resulted in a police helicopter being called out.

Haywood was sentenced on April 23 at Newport Crown Court.

PC Sian Lloyd, in charge of the case, said: “This result sends out a strong message to the public regarding the seriousness of making hoax calls to the emergency services.

“Haywood’s calls were wasting precious police time that could have been spent on genuine calls. Gwent Police are dedicated to supporting victims of harassment and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.”
