Aberbargoed fire station is set to have its official opening tomorrow, June 14.
The new station, on St Margaret’s Way, will serve communities in Aberbargoed, Bargoed, New Tredegar, Maesycwmmer Pontllanfraith and Blackwood. The estimated population of these areas is 81,000 people.
The new building replaced Bargoed and Cefn Fforest stations which closed last year.
After the official opening by Councillor Tudor Davies, Chairman of South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority at 10.30am, there will be a Station Open Day, commencing at 12 noon, where members of the community will be given the opportunity of a tour of the station and its facilities.
There will also be advice available on home fire safety and road safety from members of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Community Safety team and Road Safety team.
Cllr Davies, who represents Bargoed on Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “We are extremely pleased that this brand new, state-of-the-art fire and rescue station is now complete and we are ready to respond to the needs of our communities.”
He added: “This is a fantastic fire station that will meet the ever changing needs and demands of the community that we serve in and around Aberbargoed.”
Huw Jakeway, Chief Fire Officer of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “The new fire and rescue station has been developed as part of the Service Asset Management Strategy and our continued commitment to ensure all of our fire and rescue stations and other SWFRS properties are modern, well maintained and accessible to all.
“We have also ensured the new fire and rescue station has minimal negative impact on the environment through being constructed to a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard.”
Stuart Griffiths, Station Manager Aberbargoed Fire and Rescue Station said; “The new station has many additional positive features, one of which is the dedicated community room. This provides us with a brilliant opportunity to engage with different groups within our community.”
