Gwent Police are investigating an arson attack in Markham last night, August 13, which saw smoke spreading into nearby homes.

Firefighters were called to the semi-detached house on Abernant Road at 11.55pm and three crews extinguished the blaze, which was started deliberately.

A South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the fire was started on the ground floor of the house and was put out by 1am.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman confirmed they are treating the fire as arson, and said nobody was injured.

She said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 1 14/08/14.
