Gwent Police to develop £800,000 mobile phone app for officers

News | | Published: 09:41, Monday August 18th, 2014.

Gwent Police will spend more than £800,000 on an ‘app’ so officers can record statements at the scene of a crime.

The money comes from £2.2m received from the Home Office for “innovative” police projects and the ‘app’ will also allow officers to access an intelligence database on the road.

The Home Office cash will also fund a Women’s Triage Scheme to help rehabilitate female offenders as well as the digitalisation of firearm licensing.

Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner, Ian Johnston, welcomed funding for a new National Rural Crime Network, an online project to help reduce rural crime.

He said: “People in rural communities are a special group as they are often isolated and hard to reach.

“This new project will help break down those barriers and provide us with another weapon in our arsenal to tackle rural crime.”

£800’000 on an ‘app’….somebody saw them coming, what a waste of money why can’t they use a pen and notepad to record statements at the scene of a crime, or can’t they be trusted to operate a pen properly….and here’s an innovative police project for them – how about catching some criminals.
