Gwent police warn of garage burglaries in Caerphilly and Bedwas

News | | Published: 11:00, Thursday August 21st, 2014.

Sheds and garages are being targeted by thieves, according to Gwent Police.

In the Caerphilly town and Bedwas areas, there have been 29 break-ins since July 1.

The majority of the crimes have occurred in the same area as a recent series of 17 fuel thefts from vehicles.

Caerphilly Detective Inspector, Nick Wilkie has advised residents in the area to be extra vigilant with their home and vehicle security.

DI Wilkie said: “We’ve recently seen another cluster of shed and garage breaks within Caerphilly in streets such as: Cae Nant Gledyr in the Castell Maen estate, St Christopher’s Drive in Caerphilly and Church Street in Bedwas.

“It appears that at start of the week, Sunday to Wednesday nights, sheds and garages are being targeted around St Martin’s estate and St Christopher’s Drive and towards the end of the week, Thursday to Sunday nights, fuel from parked cars is being siphoned from transit vans throughout the Caerphilly area.

“I’m urging residents to always lock garden items and bikes away securely. I want residents to also be vigilant about the security of their vehicles when they park. Thieves will take any chance they can, please don’t make it easy for them.”
