A charity football match has been planned in memory of Jake Sweeney, who died after being assaulted in Caerphilly town centre.

Mr Sweeney was a massive Liverpool football fan and played for Dynamo Aber.

In his memory and to raise money for his family, teams from across the Valleys will come together for a memorial match on Sunday September 7 at Senghenydd RFC.

Five hundred red t-shirts have been made in memory of Mr Sweeney, with plans to create a sea of red at the game for his beloved Liverpool FC.

Dynamo Aber will play an Aber Valley All Stars team at 2.30pm and there will be a two minute silence followed by the release of red and white balloons prior to the game.

The day will include stalls, a bouncy castle, a lucky dip and local entertainment, all donated by local businesses, residents and well wishers with the aim of raising as much money as possible.

The money will be donated to Mr Sweeney’s family to help alleviate the financial burden of the funeral costs and support the family while they deal with their grief.

There are also future plans to create a memorial dedicated to Mr Sweeney.

Entry will cost £3 for adults and £1 for children.
