A charity appeal to help transform a former hospital building into a new community centre is to hold its own ‘Three Peaks’ challenge.

The GE Aviation Wales Caerphilly Three Peaks Challenge 2014 will take place on Sunday September 14 and is organised by the Caerphilly Miners Centre for the Community.

The charity is trying to raise more than £1 million to bring the Beeches building of the former Caerphilly Miners’ Hospital back into community use.

Teams will climb the Garth, Rockwood and Caerphilly mountains, covering over 13.5km, to raise sponsorship for the project.

Katherine Hughes, Company Secretary for the Caerphilly Miners Centre for the Community said: “We are delighted to be able to hold this challenge in 2014.

“This is the third consecutive year that the challenge has been held to raise money for the project. The challenge provides a great opportunity for people to take up a new challenge with friends or family whilst raising funds for this worthwhile cause.”
