A free sport scheme to tackle nuisance and anti-social behaviour will launch on Friday November 7 at Twyn School, Caerphilly.
Fab Fridays will take place between 5pm and 8pm each week and young people will have the chance to take part in a wide range of street games such as football and hockey.
Staff from Gwent Police will be on hand to offer help and support to young people as well as passing on some of their super sporting skills.
The scheme is delivered by Caerphilly County Borough Council in partnership with Gwent Police and British Transport Police.
Cllr David Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “I am delighted to see the launch of an exciting new scheme for young people in the Caerphilly area.
“Street Games is a fantastic initiative which gives young people something to focus on and enjoy, a place where they can be with friends and develop their sporting talents in a supportive environment. I hope the scheme is a great success for all the partnership organisations and young people involved.”
This scheme is well intentioned but it will not work. The people causing anti-social behaviour are not the people who will bother turning up at these events. The people causing anti-social behaviour are usually young teenagers who want to hang around chatting. They don’t want to play games, they don’t want adult supervision, they just want to be alone. Anti-social behaviour is best treated by harshly punishing those responsible producing a deterrent and not trying to prevent the unpreventable.
